Making Stripe Patterns in Procreate
As I’ve been making patterns for a few years now, I’ve started noticing some common layouts in repeat patterns. There’s a certain level of beauty to a pattern when it follows a particular layout like stripes, diamonds, scallops, circles, herringbones, chevrons, and tiles. Therefore, I decided to create this Exploring Pattern Layouts Series where we learn to create patterns in line with these common layouts. Today, we will kick off the series by learning to create stripe patterns in Procreate.
Stripe Patterns Inspiration
I’ve put together a Pinterest board with lots of stripe pattern designs. Going through these designs, I’ve found many of them are in a vertical or diagonal direction. So in the following text, you will see me creating a vertical stripe pattern and a diagonal stripe pattern in Procreate. Check out the Pinterest board below and get some inspiration for your stripe pattern.
Making a Vertical Stripe Pattern in Procreate
To create this floral pattern, I used my vertical stripe pattern guide and made a sketch accordingly. Then I drew the motifs in line with the sketch and turned it into a full drop pattern. After that, I applied textures to both the motifs and the background before calling the pattern finished.
Making a Diagonal Stripe Pattern in Procreate
By using the above method, I’ve also created this floral pattern in a diagonally striped manner.
